Accidental Fentanyl Exposure Leads to the Death of a 10-Year-Old Boy
We have discussed before how even a few grains of fentanyl can lead to a potentially fatal overdose. In Miami, one grieving family understands the dangers all too well: 10-year-old Alton Banks is dead as a result of fentanyl, and no one knows how he came into contact with the drug. According to the Washington Post:
“[Alton Banks] arrived home on that hot afternoon, June 23, and climbed the concrete steps to his second-floor apartment across from the homeless people crowded under a highway overpass.
He started vomiting. His mother called an ambulance. And that evening he was dead, killed by a combination of heroin and fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid.
And no one yet has the slightest clue how the opioid crisis that has battered the nation with such ferocity ended up taking a happy, skinny little boy a month shy of his 11th birthday.”
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of this young boy. We urge you all to take extreme case when taking prescription fentanyl, and to take steps to get your loved ones the help they need if they are battling an opioid addiction.
