Could an EPA Staffer Have Colluded with Monsanto About Shutting Down Glyphosate Investigation?A story in the politics section of the Huffington Post reveals that the Inspector General (IG) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is looking into possible collusion between an EPA staffer and Monsanto. Documents and emails that have been released because of a lawsuit against Monsanto, manufacturer of the herbicide glyphosate, mention Jess Rowland, who is the former manager in the EPA’s pesticide division, bragging that he could “kill” investigations into glyphosate.

Glyphosate is the most used agricultural chemical in the history of the world, and the journal Environmental Sciences Europe estimates that Americans have applied 1.8 million tons of glyphosate since 1974, which is enough to spray nearly half a pound of Roundup on every cultivated acre of land in the world, as per Newsweek. Plaintiffs in a lawsuit alleging that glyphosate causes cancer and that Monsanto has influenced research and paid off scientists to cover it up, have been deposing Rowland about allegations of payoffs from Monsanto to him through third parties
