Monsanto’s Roundup Pesticides Are Killing Pests, Crops, and Farmers
Monsanto, the industrial chemical company that manufactured Agent Orange and DDT in the past, is once again making headlines for the creation of controversial and potentially harmful products. This time, three Nebraska farmers and one agronomist, all of who have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, are the suing the company on the grounds that they were deliberately misled about the safety of Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup.
What is Roundup?
Medical Daily explains the dangers like this:
“Roundup consists mainly of glyphosate, a chemical that effectively kills weeds, supposedly without harming the crops themselves. Roundup is typically sold in bulk alongside Roundup Ready seeds, which can be covered with the herbicide without damage. And it’s an incredibly widespread chemical: According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), over 90 percent of soybeans in the U.S. are genetically engineered to handle herbicides, with Round Up monopolizing the market.”
Glyphosate is an herbicide and pesticide that has been in common use for many years., The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer noted that the chemical “probably” causes cancer; small amounts of the chemical are detectable after spraying and are most likely to affect farm and other agricultural workers.

The lawsuit filed by the Nebraska farmers sums up the problems succinctly, alleging, “Monsanto championed falsified data and has attacked legitimate studies that revealed Roundup dangers… Monsanto led a campaign of misinformation to convince government agencies, farmers and the general population that Roundup is safe. Its continuing denial extends to the date of this Complaint.”
